Srinagar, Oct 1 (IANS) Three separatist guerrillas and a local policeman have been killed in an ongoing gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, officials said Friday.

‘We got information about the presence of a group of militants inside a house in Akhal village late yesterday (Thursday). Police and army surrounded the house and challenged the hiding militants after which they opened fire on the troops,’ a senior police officer told IANS.

‘A gunfight started and it is still going on. So far, three militants have been killed while a constable is dead. A policeman, injured in the gunfight, has been shifted to Srinagar for treatment,’ the police officer said.

Reports reaching here said the house in Akhal village, about 40 km from here, in which the guerrillas were hiding was destroyed in the exchange of fire between the security forces and the rebels.
