Colombo, Oct 6 (IANS) The official car once used by the US ambassador to Sri Lanka has been shipped to its manufacturer BMW for recycling.
The embassy earlier disposed of the US ambassadors’ cars by sinking them off the coast of Sri Lanka in an area assigned by the Marine Pollution Prevention Authority.
Before the sinking of the vehicle, oils were collected and recycled at the embassy premises and the plastic and rubber components discarded, said a US embassy press statement.
The embassy welcomed the BMW decision to recycle vehicles as it helped to reduce the impact on the environment.
