New Delhi, Oct 18 (IANS) Automobile giant Tata Motors Monday launched its new crossover car Aria, priced between Rs.12.91 lakh and Rs.15.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

‘Tata Aria, the first Indian four-wheel drive crossover is a luxurious creation with the finesse of a sedan and the muscle of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) all blended in one car,’ said the company in a statement.

The car has been launched in three variants with 4×4 drive, like top end Aria Pride, followed by Aria Prestige and Aria Pleasure, on the new x2 platform of the company.

‘The Tata Aria is being launched in three trim levels, all with 4×4, each in eight colour options,’ statement said.

The car which is the first Indian crossover comes with 2.2 litre direct injection common rail (DICOR) engine with variable turbine technology and 32-bit engine computing unit which delivers 140 ps of power and 320 nm of torque.

‘The car which is India’s first crossover vehicle is also Bharat Stage-4 (BS-4) compliant and has some unique features such as electronic stability program (ESP) sensors and traction control system (TCS),’ said a company official.

According to the company, the car is equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels resulting in superior braking effectiveness and better control, and also has antilock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) which aids in control braking in emergencies.

The $20 billion automotive giant also plans to roll out a new SUV and a pickup truck on the x2 platform between 2011-2012.
