Kolkata, Oct 23 (IANS) Two members of a pro-Maoist tribal body were killed in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Saturday, police said.

The two have been identified as Biswanath Mahato and Pradeep Mahato of Nandalalpur area in Jhargram sub-division and were members of the Peoples’ Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA), say police .

Police suspect Maoists to be behind the killings. ‘The modus operandi suggests they have been killed by the rebels for ignoring their diktat,’ a police officer said.

However, the PCAPA spokesperson alleged that the members were dragged out of their houses by Communist-Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) hooligans and shot dead.

Maoists are active in three western districts of the state – West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.
