Hyderabad, Oct 25 (IANS) Strange rumbling sounds continued to cause panic among people in Vanasthalipuram area on the city outskirts for the fourth consecutive day Monday, prompting scientists to install seismic observatory equipment there.
People in Sachivalay Nagar neighbourhood ran out of their houses fearing an earthquake after they heard mysterious sounds Monday morning.
The residents said the rumblings started Friday night and were continuing since then. They are spending sleepless nights even as scientists of National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) continued their seismic studies.
The scientists had installed seismic observatory equipment in the area. Officials said two seismic graphs were installed – one each at Sachivalay Nagar and Saheb Nagar.
The NGRI scientists believe the strange sounds to be that of seismic disturbances. They said the area recorded a mild tremor Friday night with a magnitude of 1.8 on the Richter Scale.
The residents said they felt the tremors again Saturday and Sunday. The experts, however, allayed fears of possible earthquake among people as Hyderabad falls in Zone-II, considered as a safe zone as far as quakes are concerned.
