New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) Delhi Police are on their toes to keep the capital safe and secure this Diwali. Extra police personnel have been deployed in various parts of the city, especially markets and malls, an official said.
‘Strict checking is done on the roads as an increase in the number of drunk driving cases is seen during Diwali days. Railway stations are kept under strict vigil. The airport is also under strict surveillance,’ a senior police official told IANS.
A quick reaction team and paramilitary forces are on the ready, and the troopers have been stationed all over the city in large numbers.
‘Extra deployment of paramilitary forces, a quick reaction team, Special Weapons Action Teams (SWAT) and training reserves are prepared to keep the capital safe,’ Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.
He added that security was particularly tight at market places, malls and shopping complexes as crowded places are easy targets.
‘The Delhi Police have also asked representatives of market associations to keep an extra watch on their surroundings. A police control room van will always be near markets and malls,’ Bhagat said.
He added that the police personnel would not have it easy even after Diwali on account of US President Barack Obama’s visit to the capital Nov 7-9.
‘We have a high-profile visit soon after the festival, so our security is in place,’ Bhagat added.
