New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) Telecom equipment provider ZTE Corporation Wednesday said that it has won a $85 million universal mobile telecommunication system contract from telecom service provider Aircel to build and deploy a third generation (3G) network.
The network would be based on advanced software defined radio (SDR) platform which supports multiple air-interfaces and modulation formats.
‘As the long-term partner and supplier of GSM networks for Aircel, ZTE will be also responsible for its 2G network upgrade and implementing the new 3G network and subsequent upgrades,’ the company said in a statement.
Aircel is the Indian subsidiary of Malaysia’s Maxis group.
The network created will not only achieve multiple modes in a single base-station but also create a smooth transition towards the next generation networks such as LTE (long term evolution). This will allow Aircel achieve cost-effective networking and improved mobile services.
ZTE also said that it has more than 4,000 research and development staff focussing on fourth generation (4G) technology development.
