New Delhi, Dec 16 (IANS) Wind turbine manufacturing major Suzlon group Thursday said it has installed over 15 gigawatt of cumulative wind turbines in 25 countries across the globe amounting to 9 percent of the world’s total wind power installation.

‘The group’s 15 gigawatt of worldwide installations include 10 gigawatt by Suzlon Energy Limited and 5 gigawatt by REpower Systems in which Suzlon Energy is a majority shareholder with a holding of over 90 percent,’ the company said in a regulatory filing.

‘As we look ahead, there is incredible potential waiting to be tapped. Global wind potential is estimated at 72,000 gigawatt, more than four times the current world energy consumption and we have barely scraped the surface,’ said Tulsi R. Tanti, chairman and managing director, Suzlon Energy Limited.

‘Harnessing this potential means providing clean, green future, sustainable livelihoods and energy security,’ he added.

At the Bombay Stock Exchange the shares of the company were up 6.44 percent and traded at Rs.51.25.
