Mexico City, Dec 19 (IANS/EFE) At least 151 inmates have escaped from a prison in northeastern Mexico, just across the border from the American state of Texas, officials said.
The incident occurred Friday in Nuevo Laredo city, the public safety secretariat in Tamaulipas state said Saturday.
Army soldiers and Federal Police officers were on alert following the escape but no captures have been reported so far.
Meanwhile, prison warden Efrain Hernandez Llamas did not report to work Friday and his whereabouts remain unknown.
The prison break brings to 352 the total number of inmates who have escaped Tamaulipas jails this year.
On Sep 10, 86 men had escaped from a prison in Reynosa, neighbouring McAllen in Texas.
