New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi said it was necessary that the views of grassroots workers in states should be heeded because they are the ‘ears’ and know the ground realities.

Addressing the party’s 83rd plenary at Burari in northwest Delhi, Gandhi also said the Congress is opening up in a major way to get young people in its ranks.

‘We should not forget that our ordinary workers are the ears of the party, they tell us about the reality and know what is happening,’ she said.

She also said in states where the Congress was in power in alliance with others, ‘it was the responsibility (of party leaders) to ensure that the party organisation is heeded first and seriously attended to and wherever necessary steps should be taken’.

Referring to the electoral drubbing in Bihar, she said the Congress has to regrow, though it will be a tough path, but there are ‘no short cuts’.
