New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday said the rate of inflation would be curbed by early next year to settle at 5.5 percent.

‘We made all efforts to reduce inflation and will continue these. By March next year, inflation is expected to settle at 5.5 percent,’ the prime minister said in his address at the 83rd Congress plenary.

The prime minister said the Congress-led government had lived up to its promise of making India fare well in times of recession.

‘We had promised people that we will fight difficulties during recessionary times, we will not let anything affect our economy, and we fulfilled our promise to a great extent,’ Manmohan Singh said.
