Lucknow, Dec 22 (IANS) A police sub-inspector was Wednesday booked in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun city for illegally keeping firearms and ammunition, including hand grenades, rifles and a machine gun, in his house, police said.
Four hand grenades, two rifles, four country-made pistols and a Light Machine Gun were seized from the residence of sub-inspector Sanjay Bhardwaj in the Alapur area.
‘Acting on a tip-off, the raids were conducted but only servants were present inside the house. They were later detained to ascertain the sub-inspector’s whereabouts,’ Senior Superintendent of Police D.K. Chaudhary told IANS on telephone from Badaun, some 250-km from here.
Bhardwaj, who was recently transferred from Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh to Noida, is absconding.
