Cape Town, Jan 4 (IANS) In a major setback for South Africa, premier all-rounder Jacques Kallis was ruled out for two weeks due to a rib injury he suffered while batting in the first innings during the ongoing third Test against India.

Kallis, who scored 161 runs in the first innings, got injured after S. Sreesanth’s delivery hit him on the chest at the Newlands Stadium here Monday.

‘Jacques took a blow to the side of the chest and has a contusion on the right rib with an accompanying muscle strain. He will definitely bat if needed to in the second innings but won’t take the field when India bat,’ team manager Mohammed Moosajee told a news conference.

‘The recovery time is about two weeks and he will probably miss the first two One-day Internationals.’

Kallis’s 39th hundred in the first innings took the home side to a decent total of 362 runs.
