Jammu, Jan 4 (IANS) More than a dozen workers of Jammu and Kashmir’s main opposition People’s Democratic Party were injured in a cane charge by police here Tuesday when they were protesting against price rise and demanding basic amenities.

Police cane charged the PDP workers when they were marching towards the civil secretariat.

Party leaders said the use of force against the peaceful march was ‘deplorable’ as it reflected the ‘mindset of the state government to curb genuine and peaceful protests’.

Senior PDP vice president T.S. Bajwa said the ‘government instead of giving basic amenities like water and electricity to the people was trying to punish’ them using canes.

‘This is most unfortunate,’ he told reporters, adding that the party would continue its protest.
