New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS) Monthly passport ‘adalats’, or settlement courts, would be introduced soon to speed up the issuing of passports and redress the applicants’ grievances, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said Friday.
Most passports were delayed because of ‘incomplete applications and delay in police verifications’, Krishna said at a press conference here.
He said 50 million Indians have passports.
The recently introduced ‘passport sewa project’, he added, would make use of the ‘best technology ‘ and coordinate the services of public and private sectors to process applications and deliver passports speedily and efficiently.
