Gandhinagar, Jan 9 (IANS) Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company Limited (GLPC) has initiated corporate-business partnerships that will generate more than a million jobs in the next five years in the rural areas of the state, a company release said Sunday.

The company aims to organise the poor into self-help groups, link them with banks to build capacities and lead towards sustainable livelihoods as part of its mission Mangalam.

‘More than 32 companies have expressed their commitment to sign MoUs (memorandum of understanding) with GLPC during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, 2011,’ the release said.

It is estimated that these MoUs would trigger projects which would generate and augment livelihoods in the rural areas of Gujarat to the tune of 12 lakh (1.2 million) in the next three to five years. The financial commitments to enable them would exceed Rs.20,000 crore.

The MoUs would be signed during a seminar organised under the aegis of Rural Development Department by GLPC. Among those expected to sign the MOUs are the Future group, National Spot Exchange Ltd, Canadian company McCain, ITC, Arvind Group, Godrej AgroVat and Tata Motors, among others.

The skill training component of all the ventures will be borne by the National Skill Development Corporation.
