New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS) Newly-appointed Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Praful Patel Thursday said he would renew efforts to re-energise the public sector enterprises which come under his ministry.

Patel, who was earlier minister for state for civil aviation (independent charge) since the first United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in May 2004, assumed his new responsibility as a full-fledged cabinet minister Thursday after Wednesday’s cabinet reshuffle.

Patel represents Bhandara-Gondiya constituency in Lok Sabha and was first elected as an MP in 1991, at the age of 34. He is also widely regarded for steering the Indian aviation industry towards growth and modernisation.

‘I’m taking over from one of my best friends and colleagues Praful Patel, responsible for making the aviation sector grow very fast,’ said Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi who took additional charge of civil aviation ministry from Patel.
