New Delhi, Feb 1 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and expelled Bhartiya Janta Party leader Uma Bharti held a closed-door meeting here leading to speculations in the state’s political circles.

The meeting at the Madhya Pradesh Bhavan here was the first after almost five years since Bharti stepped down as chief minister and Chouhan took over the post, party sources said.

The meeting was on the issue of farmers’ suicides in Madhya Pradesh.

‘I was meeting all the leaders of Madhya Pradesh on the farmers’ issue, so I met Shivraj as well as other ministers of his government’, Bharti said.

Chouhan was in the capital for the chief ministers’ meeting on internal security convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, where he demanded that the union government take steps on the farmers’ issue and announce a relief package.

However, there is speculation in Bhopal’s political circles about why Bharti did not meet Chouhan in the state capital when she was there Monday.

She had announced an agitation in support of farmers from Sehor district soon, which had worried the government.
