Ghaziabad, Feb 1 (IANS) Five youth, including two relatives of police officers, were arrested here Tuesday for alleged involvement in several vehicle theft cases, police said.
The accused have been identified as Sandeep Nagar, Yogendra Bhadauria alias Sonu, Santosh Baghel alias Pandit, Shivam Shakya and Arvind alias Munna.
‘Sandeep is the son of a retired sub-inspector who was posted in Ghaziabad till 2007 while Munna is the brother of a serving police officer in Ghaziabad,’ Senior Superintendent of Police Raghubir Lal said.
‘The two were operating from within the police residential quarters. They felt that it was safe for them to carry out their activities from there.
‘We have ordered immediate vacation of residential staff quarters of both of their families. Criminal activity of this kind can’t be tolerated from those staying in our official staff houses,’ he added.
Nagar was pursuing graduation from a Noida college while Bhadauria had completed his graduation from Gwalior. Shakya was studying BBA at a college in Ghaziabad.
The five were involved in several cases of vehicle thefts in Ghaziabad, Noida, Mathura, Agra, Etawah and Firozabad. They used to steal expensive cars and then dispose them off in Delhi at throwaway prices. A Mahindra Xylo was also recovered from them.
