Pyongyang, Feb 2 (IANS) North Korea has accused Japan of illegally hunting whales, the official KCNA news agency reported.

Japanese boats continue whaling in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans, with nearly 1,000 whales caught every year allegedly for scientific research, Xinhua reported citing the KCNA.

Japan’s illegal hunting has put the remaining whales in the world in danger of extermination, the report said.

It further said that Japan refused to stop catching whales as it has brought enormous benefits to the country from whale marketing.

‘It is natural that Japan is criticised by the international community for killing whales to rake in money,’ it said.
