Singapore, Feb 2 (DPA) Singapore Airlines Wednesday confirmed an incident with one of its Airbus A380s, saying the crew of a superjumbo detected the smell of smoke in a toilet just before the plane landed safely in Singapore.
The Jan 31 incident came after an A380 of Australia’s Qantas airline was forced into an emergency landing in Singapore in November after one of its Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines caught fire.
A Singapore Airlines spokesman said its A380 aircraft was coming from Hong Kong when crew members noticed the smell while the plane approached Singapore.
After the landing, engineers detected ‘burning marks on the wiring’ below the toilet, he said, adding that no smoke or fire was to be seen during the incident.
Engineers from Singapore Airlines and Airbus were investigating the incident and, as a precautionary measure, were also inspecting the airline’s ten other A380s, the spokesman said.
There were no disruptions in Singapore Airline’s A380 services, he added.
