San Salvador, Feb 6 (EFE) Mexico’s ambassador to El Salvador was injured in a hit-and-run incident Saturday while walking his dog in an exclusive residential area of this capital, police said.
Leandro Arellano Resendiz was taken to a nearby hospital but did not suffer serious injury.
The diplomat was hit by a private vehicle Saturday morning while he walking his dog in San Salvador’s Escalon neighbourhood, a spokesperson for the National Civil Police told EFE.
Arellano Resendiz is in stable condition and will remain under medical supervision at a private hospital in the Salvadoran capital, said the Mexican Embassy’s counsellor for economic and media affairs, Bernardo Mendez.
He added that the embassy has asked Salvadoran authorities to investigate the incident to ensure the person responsible is punished.
According to the Diario de Hoy newspaper’s website, the ambassador suffered injuries to the face and other minor injuries.
The police spokesperson said the vehicle that struck the ambassador was located by police on a nearby street.
