Dhaka, February 19 (IANS) India’s batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar Saturday equalled Pakistan’s legendary batsman Javed Miandad’s record of playing six consecutive World Cups.
The 37-year-old Tendulkar equalled the feat when he stepped out to take guard against Bangladesh in the tournament opener at the Shere Bangla National Stadium here. Appearing in his 445th ODI, Tendulkar scored just 28 runs in 29 balls before being run out following a horrible mix-up with Sehwag.
Tendulkar, who made his international debut in Pakistan in 1989, played his first World Cup under Mohammad Azharuddin’s captaincy in 1992 Down Under. Pakistan went on to lift the 1992 World Cup and it was Miandad’s fifth World Cup appearance.
The former Pakistan captain, who played 233 ODIs and 124 Test matches, made his international debut with the first World Cup in 1975, a day before his 18th birthday. He also ended his career with the 1996 World Cup after Pakistan lost to India in a quarterfinal in Bangalore.
