Washington, May 25 (Inditop): Katie Holmes kept her tears from pouring while reading out a soldier’s memoirs during a rehearsal for the annual Memorial Day concert.

The actress was preparing to lend a helping hand in honouring US war veterans at the 20th PBS National Memorial Day Concert in Washington, D.C.

The Batman Begins star will be paying tribute to Iraq war veteran Jose Pequeno by sharing his story, and that of his mother Nellie Bagley and sister Elizabeth.

The 30-year-old said that she felt honoured to be a part of the big event.

“It’s important to tell these stories and honour the sacrifice and service of these men and women and their families,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“It’s a real gift to be able to portray an American of such strength. I’m excited. I want to do justice to her story,” she added.
