New Delhi, March 1 (IANS) The body of a 33-year-old labourer who was allegedly murdered was found on the premises of a Municipal Corporation of Delhi school under construction here Tuesday, police said. One man has been detained for questioning.
The dead man was identified as Devender, who was working at the school in Jagatpuri area in east Delhi. ‘We have detained a 20-year-old man Zahid in this connection,’ said a senior police officer.
Police said that it appeared that Devender died due to severe bleeding. ‘Locals found Devender lying near the construction site today (Tuesday) morning and was rushed him to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where doctors declared him dead,’ said the officer.
Police have sent the body for autopsy.
‘Primary investigations revealed that some labourers were drinking at the site after the day’s work Monday night when a quarrel took place over some petty issue in which Devender was also involved,’ said the officer.
Police said that it is believed that Devender was beaten to death in the fight. ‘A case has been registered at Jagatpuri police station and Zahid is being interrogated to verify what actually happened last night,’ said the officer.
Devender, who hails from Bihar, is survived by his wife and two children.
