Toronto, March 2 (IANS/EFE) Five members of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, including lead dancer Elier Bourzac, decided to remain in Canada after performing here, the Montreal Gazette reported Tuesday.
The other artists who decided to remain in Canada are Bourzac’s wife – Patricia Gonzalez – Jorge Villazon, Yadil Suarez and Hugo Rodriguez.
Bourzac, 26, told the daily that his decision to remain in Canada after the BNC performance was made last month in Montreal for ‘artistic’ reasons.
The dancer added that ‘in Cuba, which is exclusively classical dance, I got to where I wanted in classical ballet, and I would like to continue in ballet. But I’d like to explore contemporary dance and work with international choreographers’.
On Tuesday, the web page of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba continues to list Bourzac as the group’s lead dancer.
