Mumbai, March 22 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities markets soared past the psychologically important level of 18,000 points Tuesday on positive cues from other Asian markets.
The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened in the positive at 17,929.09 points, soared past 18,000-point mark by noon.
Around 2 p.m., the benchmark Sensex was trading at 17,991.34 points, up 0.85 percent or 152.29 points from the previous close of 17,839.05 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 18,041.22 points and low of 17,878.80 points in the intra-day trade so far.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was up 0.90 percent or 48.25 points at 5,413 points.
All the broader markets and sectoral indices were also in the positive.
