Kolkata, March 30 (IANS) As the excitement soared across the country over the high-voltage India-Pakistan World Cup semifinal clash Wednesday, politicians in poll-bound West Bengal too wrapped up campaigning by afternoon and were glued to their TV sets.

Leaders of various parties decided to go for an early campaign as most of them believed that they would not be able to gather many people once the match starts.

Kolkata’s busy streets like Shyambazar crossing, Park Circus crossing and Esplanade junction, normally bustling with heavy traffic, wore a deserted look.

Both Trinamool and Left Front candidates decided to complete their day’s campaigning by afternoon.

‘I will watch the match in the evening because my supporters and the common people of the area will be engrossed in watching the match,’ said Ranjit Kundu, Left Front candidate for the Naihati assembly seat.

‘As Team India will win today, I will also win in this constituency,’ said Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee, contesting from Behala West constituency of Kolkata.

Trinamool’s official website wished good luck to both the teams.
