Cairo, April 29 (IANS) At least 22 people died and four had a narrow escape when a ferry sank in the Nile in southern Egypt, the official news agency MENA reported.
The incident took place near Beni Swef city, 120 km south of Cairo.
The victims – on their way to a graveyard – were on a bus that boarded the ferry. The ferry abruptly hit the bank, causing the bus to overturn in the river.
Eighteen bodies have been recovered, the report said, adding that four passengers jumped through the bus windows.
Ferry accidents are common in the Nile. A ferry capsized in July last year near Cairo, killing five people.
