London, April 30 (IANS) Prince Charles, the father of British royal groom Prince William, described his new daughter-in-law Kate as the daughter he had never had, saying: ‘We are so lucky to have her.’
In a speech during the royal dinner Friday night, the Prince of Wales also cracked jokes about his elder son’s receding hairline, according to the Daily Mail.
Charles toasted the newly-wed couple at the reception thrown by the Queen for 650 guests and wished the couple a long and happy life together.
Kate’s former primary school headmaster Robert Acheson, said: ‘William spoke very well but it was Charles who really gave high praise to his daughter-in-law. He said they were really lucky to have a daughter like her.’
Susie Lea, a friend of the Middleton family, described how Charles cracked jokes about his son.
‘The Prince of Wales made a few jokes about his bald patch and his son’s bald patch, saying it must be hereditary. William smiled, he was amused. Kate looked amused as well,’ she said.
The newlyweds later cut their wedding cake to cheers from the gathering. A total of 10,000 canapes were served during the two-hour reception, prepared by the Buckingham Palace kitchen staff.
