New Delhi, June 23 (Inditop.com) State-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is set to launch third generation (3G) mobile services in Gangtok by Aug 15, the government has said.

Announcing this in Gangtok Monday, Minister of State for Communications and IT Sachin Pilot said the 3G services would be extended to three more districts in the state within 100 days of its launch, a government statement said here.

BSNL will also increase the strength of its Internet broadband services to 30 GB PPS (packets per second) and all 26 blocks in the state would get broadband within 100 days, he said.

“It is a difficult terrain and the ministry would support the efforts to improve information and technology in Sikkim, as it would increase opportunities for the talented youth,” Pilot added.

The minister also promised that traffic congestion in mobile services in 21 sectors of the state would be removed by Aug 15.

The 3G radio spectrum would allow telecom operators to offer high-speed Internet and video calls on mobile phones.
