Kolkata, June 11 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Saturday condemned the killing of senior crime journalist of Mumbai-based eveninger Mid Day, Jyotindra Dey, by unidentified assailants in northwest Mumbai.

‘We condemn the killing. We respect brave and honest journalists. Those who are trying to stop the voice of media by killing him will not succeed,’ said Banerjee said while talking to reporters in Kolkata.

Mumbai eyewitnesses were reported to have said four unidentified assailants came on two motorcycles, shot Dey and sped away. The journalist was shot nine times.

Dey, in his late 40s, was rushed to the nearby Hiranandani Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries soon afterwards. He is survived by his wife Shobha and his mother.
