Kolkata, Aug 1 (IANS) Vast areas of Kolkata have been experiencing severe power outage since Sunday night after a transformer at a power substation caught fire.
A transformer of Jeerat substation of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company caught fire at around 11.30 p.m. Sunday night and subsequently unit one and three of CESC’s Budge Budge thermal power station tripped, causing widespread load shedding in north, central and south Kolkata.
The muggy weather has further added to the woes of people.
According to CESC sources, power deficit in the city stood at about 450 MW Monday morning.
‘Power deficit stood at 220 MW this afternoon after Budge Budge unit one has resumed operation. After sometime the unit will function at its full capacity,’ it added.
