Pune, Sep 30 (IANS) Vashistha Pawar kept his nerve and lead intact to emerge the Toyota-IGU junior golf champion here Friday.
The Coimbatore golfer had a tough day on the course with a round of 77, but his one-shot overnight lead stood him good and he won by one as challenger Abhishek Kuhar (77) was unable to bridge that gap. Pawar totalled 295 for four rounds, while Kuhar tallied 296.
Prakher Asawa (80) topped category B with a total of 299 and his final day card saw him drop to fifth in overall standings for categories A and B combined. Piyush Sangwan (76) ended second in category B with a total of 300, while Shivnaren Srinivasan (76) was three shots behind at 303.
On Thursday, Aditi Ashok emerged triumphant in the combined category. Gurbani Singh was second in the combined and topped category A.
Pawar had consistent rounds of 72, 73, 73 and 77 that aided his win.
Finishing third in category A behind Pawar and Kuhar was Aman Raj, whose card of 76, saw him finish at 297 and Ankur Chadha (74) with 208 was fourth. Manu Gandas (76) and Rahul Ravi (77) ended in a tie for fifth at 299.
Arjun Puri (75), who had one of the best cards during the day was the topper in category C but with a total of 318 as his first three rounds were in the 80s. He was tied with Jaiveer Singh (76), but Puri won on countback. Karandeep Kochar (85) was third with a total of 329. Manav Bias won the title in category D with a three-round total of 250 after a final day’s 81. He was followed by Devansh Chadha (83) at 252 and Harshjeet Sethi (88) at 256.
Sahana Parvantavida (89) won the title in category D for Girls, while Tanrika Singh was second.
