Islamabad, Oct 1 (IANS) Islamabad Police have foiled a bid to blow up an important building in the capital, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Friday.

A huge quantity of explosives were found hidden in fire extinguishing cylinders. The government has now banned all such cylinders placed in various buildings in the capital, the official APP news agency reported.

Malik said that some militants involved in the plot have been arrested. Rocket launchers, grenades and suicide jackets have been recovered from them.

‘Terrorists are on the run and are trying to disrupt peace in Islamabad,’ Malik said at a function Friday organised at the traffic police headquarters.

He said various terror groups had planned to converge here for subversive activities but police foiled their attempts.

He added that 5,000 police jobs will be created in the capital to boost security.
