Cairo, Oct 2 (IANS) A consultant meeting held between Egyptian chief of staff of the armed forces Sami Anan and several political parties and movements pricked up divisions among parties in Egypt upon the coming elections in November.
Some parties announced that they did not accept the outcome of Anan’s meeting Saturday, according to the official news agency MENA, while others hailed as a positive step the modification of the fifth item of the election law as positive, which allows political parties to file candidates for the remaining one-third of parliament seats previously reserved for independent candidates only, reported Xinhua.
The chief of the Arab Democratic Nasserist Party Sameh Ashour said Sunday that he was not satisfied with the meeting, as a number of political parties showed their anger on their exclusion from the meeting.
Five Egyptian parties, including Freedom, Egyptian Citizen, Generation, Egypt’s Youth and the Constitutional and Egyptian Revolution showed in a joint statement their dissatisfaction of being marginalized.
However, Wahid el-Oqsori, chief of the Egyptian Arab Socialist Party, was quoted as saying by MENA that the military council has responded to the request of various political parties.
Egypt is set to begin its first parliamentary elections on Nov 28.
