New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) A cabinet panel Monday recommended to President Pratibha Patil that the winter session of parliament be convened Nov 22-Dec 21.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal made the announcement after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee chaired the meeting.
The session is crucial as the government is expected to bring some ambitious legislations including the food security bill.
It is also likely to work towards passage of Lokpal bill which is being examined by a parliamentary standing committee.
The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left are expected to target the government on price rise, 2G spectrum scam, cash-for-votes controversy and the Commonwealth Games scandal.
BJP veteran L.K. Advani’s Jan Chetna Yatra will culminate in Delhi Nov 20, days ahead of the winter session and party leaders have said they would take forward their offensive against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government inside parliament.
