New Delhi, Dec 1 (IANS) Two Grammy award winning musicians – Vishwa Mohan Bhatt from India and Toumani Diabate from Mali – will perform at a benefit concert here Dec 3 to help raise awareness about AIDS and fight against the disease.
The concert, to be held at Nehru Park, is a collaboration between the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Indigo Live and UNAIDS.
‘The vision of ICCR is to enhance and promote cultural collaborations and dialogue between different genres of art forms which go towards building friendly partnerships and interactions between the different peoples, societies and countries. It is ICCR’s conviction that this dialogue will leave a durable impact,’ director-general of ICCR Suresh Goel said in a statement.
He said the ICCR was delighted to be associated with creation of awareness in India and around the world about the need to address the scourge of AIDS in a humane and socially responsible manner’.
UNAIDS international goodwill ambassador Toumani Diabate received a Grammy award for best traditional world music album for his joint album with Ali Farka Toure’s entitled ‘Ali and Toumani’.
Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the foremost disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar, modified the guitar as Mohan Veena. He won the Grammy in 1994 along with Ry Cooder for a world music Album, ‘A Meeting By the River’.
