Kabul, Dec 2 (IANS) A Taliban suicide bomber Friday tried to drive an explosives-laden lorry into a camp of international troops in Afghanistan, but failed and blew up the vehicle, killing himself and injuring four policemen and a civilian, police said.
The bombing took place in Mohammad Aga district in Logar province, some 60 km from Kabul, provincial police chief Rogh Lewanai told Xinhua.
The terrorist was attempting to drive the vehicle ‘inside a military camp of international troops’ but failed and detonated it outside the camp, he said.
There were no casualties among the foreign troops, he said.
Windowpanes of several houses nearby broke on the impact of the blast.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
Zabihullah Mujahid, who claimed to speak for the terror outfit, told media via telephone from an unknown location, that several Afghans and foreign soldiers were killed in the attack.
Mujahid said a Taliban suicide bomber named Adris carried out the attack, leaving several Afghan and NATO soldiers dead. The claim was rejected by the provincial police chief as ‘mere baseless propaganda’.
Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi also rebuffed the Taliban claim, saying no one was killed except the attacker.
