New Delhi, Jan 3 (IANS) A total of 50 students Tuesday began a month-long winter internship programme conducted by the National Human Rights Commission.
The students were shortlisted from 32 universities and colleges in 19 states.
The interns will be provided with information regarding the international conventions on human rights to which India is a signatory. Besides, they will do research studies on different aspects of human rights and be taken on field visits.
Welcoming the students, NHRC joint secretary J.S. Kochher said: ‘They will be sensitised on various human rights issues like rights of the disabled, mentally challenged persons, women, children, senior citizens and those belonging to the SC/STs (Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribals).’
He expressed hope that the student interns will make the best use of the training programme by utilising the facilities available in the commission.
