Rio de Janeiro, March 14 (IANS) Internacional eased to a 5-0 victory at home over Bolivia’s The Strongest, the Group 1 leaders in the 2012 Libertadores Football Cup.
Internacional’s star striker Leandro Damiao was impeccable and thrilled fans with three goals.
With the superb hat-trick, Damiao is now among the top scorers of the tournament with five goals. The scoring trio came one week after Neymar’s hat-trick in Santos’ 3-1 win against Internacional.
Dagoberto and Jo also scored for Internacional, completing the five-goal flurry.
The result provisionally gives Internacional the lead in Group 1 with 6 points. However, Santos will have the opportunity to take over the first place with a match against Juan Aurich March 14, Xinhua reports.
Internacional’s next match will be in Bolivia against The Strongest March 21.
