Shimla, April 1 (IANS) Vehicles registered outside Himachal Pradesh would not be slapped with a green tax on entering Shimla as the proposal has been deferred, an official said here Sunday.
The collection of the tax was planned to begin from April 1 but was put off as the Shimla Municipal Corporation failed to auction the tax collection counters, civic agency’s Commissioner M.P. Sood told IANS.
The corporation had decided to start collecting the tax at all entry points to the capital from both commercial and private vehicles registered in other states.
Now, fresh bids will be invited to outsource the tax collection, Sood said.
The civic agency plans to charge Rs.100 per entry from a two-wheeler, Rs.200 from cars and Rs.500 from buses and trucks.
The green tax in Shimla has been imposed in line with that in force in Manali town.
The Shimla corporation aims to raise Rs.6 crore annually from the tax and use them for boosting infrastructure for tourists.
