New Delhi, April 1 (IANS) Seven robbers from Haryana were arrested here after an exchange of fire which left two policemen injured Sunday, Delhi Police said.
“The seven accused were arrested for attacking a police patrol party in Bawana area of north Delhi in the afternoon,” said a police officer. Some of their accomplices managed to escape.
There were around 15 members in the gang planning to loot metal scrap from a yard in sector 5 of Bawana, police said.
A police patrol party spotted them and the robbers opened fire in a bid to run away. Police fired back and caught seven of them. Head constable Om Prakash, 42, and constable Mahender, 40, were injured.
“A bullet pierced the abdomen of Mahender and Om Prakash was hit by an iron rod,” said the official.
Police said the names of the robbers would be disclosed later.
