New Delhi, July 13 (Inditop.com) The accident at the metro construction site in south Delhi Sunday, in which six people were killed, did not take place because of any hurry to meet the Commonwealth Games deadline next year, Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy told parliament Monday.
He said that the Central Secretariat to Badarpur section will be opened as per schedule in September 2010.
“The accident did not take place because of any hurry. We shall never compromise on the quality of the work. A four member high level committee has been formed to look into the matter and they will submit the report within ten days,” Reddy said.
The members of the probe committee are A.K. Nagpal of the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, and two officials from DMRC — Rajan Kataria, head of design cell, and Steven Lowry, project director for general construction. P.R. Bose of the Delhi College of Engineering is the fourth member of the committee.
“The estimated direct loss due to the accident is Rs.6 crore and the work on the section will be delayed by three months. But the deadline of the Central Secretariat to Badarpur section remains unchanged,” Reddy said.
The committee will look into the causes leading to the accident including checking the quality of material used, the design, workmanship, method of construction and precautions that need to be taken at other Delhi Metro sites.
