New Delhi, May 31 (IANS) Three Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials, facing trial in a Commonwealth Games-related corruption case, were Thursday granted bail by a special CBI court here.

Special CBI judge Pradeep Chaddah released on bail MCD Superintendent Engineer D.K. Sugan, Executive Engineer O.P. Mahla and the civic body’s tender clerk Gurcharan Singh.
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the accused had entered into a criminal conspiracy for upgrading the street lights in view of the mega sports event in Oct 2010 and caused a loss of around Rs.1.42 crore to the government.
The CBI alleged that tenders of street lighting were opened in May 2008 and wrongfully awarded to Sweska Powertech.
“Keeping in mind the fact that the two co-accused have been enlarged on bail and the present accused are in custody for nearly a year, it would be in fitness of the things to enlarge the accused on bail,” judge Chaddah said.
The court allowed their bail plea on the ground of parity observing that the Delhi High Court has already granted promoters of Sweka firm, T.P. Singh and J.P. Singh, bail May 21.
“Let accused D.K. Sugan, O.P. Mahla and Gurcharan Singh be released on bail on furnishing personal bond in sum of Rs.One lakh with one surety each in the like amount,” the court said.
