London, July 29 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Kimberly Rhode of the United States won the gold medal in the women’s skeet competition at the Olympics Sunday, equalling the world record along the way.
Rhode, a double Olympic champion in the double trap and Beijing silver medallist in the skeet, entered the final with a four-point cushion after qualifying and calmly blasted her way to victory as her rivals fell away.
Rhode, who equalled the Olympics record earlier Sunday, matched Danka Bartekova’s world record of 99.
China’s Wei Ning added another silver to the one she took in Athens in 2004, while Slovakia’s Bartekova snatched bronze in a shoot-off against Russia’s Marina Belikova.
Belikova had held down third place for the duration of the final, but missed her final two shots to allow Bartekova to equalize in a drama-filled last round.
