New Delhi, July 30 (IANS) A 34-year-old Delhi Police constable was arrested here for cheating a widow whom he married to allegedly extract the compensation amount which she had got after the death of her first husband, police said Monday.

Kumar, who was already married, allegedly married in 2004 Suneeta, 29, whose first husband had died a year ago in a road accident.
Kumar was posted at Delhi Police training centre in Malviya Nagar. He was arrested from south Dehi’s Govindpuri Saturday, said a police official.
“Kumar had met Suneeta during his deputation at Kalkaji area. He put a marriage proposal before her after knowing that she would get the compensation amount,” said a police officer.
“One year after the marriage, he became father (of Suneeta’s son). In 2006, when Suneeta received the compensation amount he started harassing her for money,” said the officer.
He extracted Rs.3.5 lakh from Suneeta, who alleged that Kumar purchased a flat, in south Delhi’s Arjun Nagar, and a car with the compensation amount but suddenly vanished in 2008.
Suneeta had reported him missing at Okhla police station and later came to know that he was residing with his first wife in Govindpuri.
In December 2008 also, she approached the police but the authorities did not take action. After two years of police inaction, Suneeta moved a city court and Kumar was arrested following its order on May 19, 2012.
