Ghaziabad, July 30 (IANS) The sudden failure of the Northern Grid Monday severely affected the NCR towns of Ghaziabad, Noida, Meerut and Bulandshahr, hitting common people and businesses alike. The 14-hour power failure also disrupted the movement of trains passing through Ghaziabad for Delhi.
The power supply was shut at 2:30 a.m. and could be partially restored in the afternoon only. Hospital services and road traffic movement were also disrupted.
“The power supply has been restored in towns. The supply in rural areas is yet to be restored,” said Ghaziabad District Magistrate Aparna Upadhyay. There was no power supply till 7.00 p.m. Monday.
The services of about 70 trains passing through Ghaziabad also remained disrupted. Trains like Lucknow Shatabdi and Neelanchal express remained more than 2-3 hours behind schedule.
The railway routes running between Delhi-Howrah, Delhi-Dehradun, Delhi-Lucknow remained disrupted for over 8 to 10 hours due to the power failure.
In certain areas of Vasundhara, Vaishali and Indirapuram, the non-availability of power hit the water supply.
“My morning schedule for office was disturbed badly which affected my working efficiency. I had to go to my office in Nehru Place without taking bath,” said Saurabh Singh, a resident of Vasundhara.
Industry bodies and common people blamed the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for the power failure.
