Srinagar, July 31 (IANS) A Jammu and Kashmir Police constable was injured Tuesday in the state’s Sopore town after guerrillas lobbed grenades at a paramilitary camp and the local police station.
The policeman was passing the camp when he was injured.
“At 5.30 p.m. militants lobbed a powerful hand grenade at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Shah Faisal market, but it exploded outside the camp resulting in minor injuries to a passer-by, a police constable who has since been shifted to hospital for treatment,” a senior police officer told IANS here.
“Again at 7.30 p.m., militants hurled another hand grenade at the Sopore police station which exploded without causing any damage”.
Senior police officers rushed to the blast sites to take stock of the situation.
No separatist group has so far owned responsibility for the two grenade attacks.
The second grenade exploded minutes before the residents of the north Kashmir apple-rich town, 54 km from Srinagar, were preparing to break their day’s Ramadan fast.
