Lucknow, Sep 6 (IANS) Three robbers were lynched by an angry mob of villagers late Wednesday in Sambha, 370 km from here, police said.
The incident took place in the Hyatnagar Jeroi village late Wednesday night when three robbers, after committing a crime in the village, fled the crime scene and hid in a sugarcane field.
Cornered by the villagers, the criminals opened fire and a villager was injured after which all hell broke loose and the villagers attacked the robbers with sticks and iron rods.
All the three were killed on the spot, Superintendent of Police (SP) Tehsildar Singh told IANS Thursday. The bodies have been sent for autopsy and a case against unidentified villagers has been registered by the police.
The deceased have not yet been identified. Two country-made pistols and the looted items have been recovered from them, the police official said.
